It comes more than two years after Weiss was fired from the team in January 2023. No reason was given at the time for his firing.
As per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Weiss is charged with 14 counts of unauthorized computer access and 10 counts of aggravated identity theft.
It’s alleged that between 2015 and January 2023, Matt gained unauthorized access to student-athlete databases of more than 100 colleges and universities.
After receiving access, officials said he downloaded personally identifiable information and medical data of more than 150,000 athletes.
The officials then said he could use that information to access the social media, email, and cloud storage accounts of more than 2,000 athletes.
According to the criminal complaint, Matt primarily targeted female college athletes. He researched and targeted those women based on their school affiliation, athletic history, and physical characteristics.
He aimed to obtain private photographs and videos, never intended to be shared beyond intimate partners.
It was revealed that two-factor authentication, an extra layer of login protection, prevented Matt from gaining initial access to the database.

Charlie Weis, 68, was born in Trenton, United States, on March 30, 1956.
He lives in New Jersey with his wife, Maura Grasso, with whom he married on June 21, 1992. They have two children, Charles Joseph “Charlie” Jr. and Hannah Margaret.

Charlie Jr is the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss).
In 2003, Weis and his wife established the Hannah & Friends Foundation, dedicated to children affected by developmental disorders and named after their daughter, who is autistic.
The inaugural Hannah & Friends Celebrity Golf Classic was held in the spring of 2004 to benefit the foundation.
