Sophia Humbert walked into her American Idol Season 23 audition and planned to impress the judges with a performance of Carrie Underwood’s song “Before He Cheats.”
Highlights
- Sophia Humbert appeared in an American Idol season 23 audition and sang Carrie Underwood’s song “Before He Cheats.”
- Humbert was born to her father, Trent, and her mother, Vernaliza Meyer-Humbert. Her father served as the lead IT recruiter and account manager at TEKsystem from 1999 to 2010.
- She grew up along with her younger brother, Luke Humbert.
Following Sophia’s strong rendition of Underwood’s sing, judges Luke Bryan, Lione Richie, and Underwood agreed that the performance needed more aggression.
Before Humbert and host Ryan Seacrest embarked on an off-site continuation of the audition, judge Bryan said,
“It’s exercise time,”

To encourage the singer to emote more during her performance, the “Idol” team told Humbert to sing while acting out the song’s revenge story.
Humbert sang the lyrics with a baseball bat (like the Louisville slugger mentioned in the song’s chorus) before smashing the truck’s headlights.
Eventually, the “Idol” team joined in, cracking the truck’s windshield and scratching the red paint with a set of keys.
The exercise was powerful enough to earn Humber a ticket to Hollywood.
